Kayaking around Koh Lanta
Koh Lanta Activities | Koh Lanta kayaking tours
Koh Lanta is a big island and to the east of the island, there are many picturesque islands just waiting to be explored. The best way to do so is by kayak.
In the shallow, sheltered bay near Koh Lanta there are 130 islands reaching up to 300 meters in height in an amazing variety of weird and beautiful shapes. In the past few years, the area around Phang Nga Bay and the Krabi Province has become world renowned for its spectacular scenery. Sheer limestone cliffs covered in rich jungle folige rise vertically out of rice paddies and aquamarine seas.
Along 30 kilometer of the east coast, Koh Lanta Yai is very rich with mangrove forest. The north coast of Koh Lanta Noi, near by Ban Rapu, is rich in mangroves and caves. The whole of this area was declared a National Park and wildlife sanctuary in 1982 and lies directly west of the Krabi province.
Koh Talabeng, just off of the northeast corner of Koh Lanta Yai, offers the same stunning beauty that exists in Phang Nga Bay. The difference is that no one goes there. Small beaches offer travelers the opportunity to relax and swim a bit. Towering cliffs will dazzle you. There are little pockets and caves all around the island and abundant wildlife makes it a target for birdwatching and nature tours.
Koh Lapu Le
Koh Lapu Le, just off of the east side of Koh Lanta Noi, is similar to Koh Talabeng. However, it is different enough to warrant a visit. Monitor lizards are common on both Koh Talabeng and Koh Lapu Le. The younger lizards have a habit of sitting still in the obvious hopes that they haven't been spotted making for some easy photo opportunities.
One island, Koh Bubu, has their own bungalows. This island is small and rather plain, but the bungalows are stylish and clean. The food at the restaurant is very good too. There is a nice beach in front of the bungalows and there are a few hammocks waiting to be occupied.
