The waters of Koh Lanta are famous for the big catches of mackerel, barracuda, tuna and sailfish. It is the venue for the annual Phuket fishing competition. Imagine how delicious it will taste, a cook preparing your own fish at a table on the beach when getting back to the resort!

Gamefishing at Koh Rok

Many world fishing magazines talk about an island not far from Koh Lanta, Koh Rok or "Long-nose Island" because of impressive number of sailfish. The local record is 24 sailfish on one boat in an afternoon. Many fisher like to target some of the many other species like King mackerel, Wahoo, Barracuda, Dorado, Giant Travail, Rainbow Runner and Tuna.

For those who are not fascinated by gamefishing, Koh Rok has the most beautiful snorkeling spots near Koh Lanta.

Koh Lanta fishing trips: boat charter

Once you like the patient sport, Koh Lanta is the right place for fishing. Three different kinds of fishing trip are offered by private long tail boat: half-day, full day and night fishing. The usual catch is Barracuda and White and Red Snapper among other sorts. Recommended group size ranges from 2 up to 10 persons and fishing gears are provided at a separate cost depending on your target fish species. Drinks and food are generally provided during full day and night trips, but only drinks for half-day tours.

You can charter a speed boat or large fishing boat as well. Expeditions from this area and nearby Phuket to catch marlin, sailfish barracuda and tuna are easily arranged.

When night fishing, departure is prior to sunset and anchor is thrown usually close to an island. The advantage of night fishing, except for a bigger catch, is to see the sunrise, be close to nature and feel everything awaken to a new day.
