Koh Lanta birdwatching
Koh Lanta Activities | Koh Lanta activities and birding tours
Southern Thailand and Koh Lanta are famous destinations for birding and birdwatching tours. In addition to a beautiful tidal river area, there are several islands just off the coast of Koh Lanta.
Bird species of mainland Koh Lanta
Scarlet-backed flowerpeckers, Black-naped Orioles, various sunbirds and spiderhunters fluttering around the beautiful plants are common sights on mainland Koh Lanta.

Once out on the islands, there is plenty to explore. The water is clear and the backdrop is dramatic limestone formations. Most recommendable are birding trips by kayak, as it will allow for silent approach to birds and is the most eco-friendly way to explore the mangrove forests along the coast line of Koh Lanta. White-bellied sea eagles and Brahminy kites soar high over the majestic limestone cliffs of Koh Muk.
Koh Lanta birdwatching season
Koh Lanta and the surrounding islands are subject to waves in the low season (mid April through November). It is therefore recommended for experienced paddlers only during this period. The sea is however perfectly calm and safe during the high season.
